ABOUT YENAE

Founder

I’m Yenae Gebru, a junior at the University of Rhode Island double majoring in psychology and marketing. I’m someone who’s always been drawn to creativity, connection, and helping people feel seen—whether that’s through writing poetry, trying new recipes, or simply being there when someone needs support. I started Speak UP Now to turn that passion into purpose by creating a space that provides resources, uplifts unheard voices, and inspires others to speak up for themselves and their communities.

ABOUT DARNELL

Co-Founder

I’m currently a junior majoring in Psychology with a deep passion for helping others overcome the emotional challenges that can hold them back. My long term goal is to become a Sports Psychologist, supporting individuals as they work through mental barriers and come out stronger. I’ve always taken the mental struggles of others seriously and feel called to walk with people through their trials. Through the Speak Up Now Foundation, my hope and prayer is that people of all backgrounds can better understand their struggles—and begin to see them not as traps, but as opportunities for breakthrough and growth.

Jordan Burwell

I’m a Junior history major with a deep passion for Black History and a desire to become a historian who tells the stories of my people with truth, honor, and power. Rooted in faith, social justice, and a love for my culture, I strive to live with purpose and compassion. Through the Speak Up Now Foundation, I hope to be a vessel that helps bring hope, awareness, and unity to communities that have long deserved better, and be a small stepping stone in cultivating a world that is more just, loving, and united!
